Travel is certainly new for me but it was something I decided I wanted to do a long time ago. How did I know I wanted to travel? How did I know where I wanted to go? I can’t really say and and I am still not sure and all I know is that I wanted to travel.
Yes, I learned about some of the foreign places in school, saw exotic places on television, in magazines and books… but how do you decide where to go? It will be a different story for all of us. Some of us will go to the popular tourist hot spots and some to places where family and friends have gone. In the end it does not matter how we decide but right now I am traveling and where to, at first, really did not matter to me, I just wanted to see beyond the gate, see the world. I have started and am doing it now and that is what counts and matters to me.
I am not sure if I would be traveling to the extent that I am had I traveled alone. I met a man who had traveled somewhat extensively. We became good friends and decided that we would travel together. We started by planning several different trip scenarios, each trip dependent upon the amount of time we would be able to take off from our jobs and of course if we each had sufficient resources for the trip.
I bought a map of the world and taped it face up under my glass table top. That was my first commitment to travel. Next was getting the time off work, finalizing trip plans, buying tickets, packing my carry on bag…yes I traveled for two months with a small carry one bag…..and then just doing it. Go for it!!
The plan, albeit a loose plan, was Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and India. Two months loosely planned the only thing set in stone was flying to Bangkok and returning home from Mumbai. Everything else in between was as you go, and it seems I am well suited for this type of travel. Booking rooms at Air B&B was a great way to go and a good way to save money. We did however stay in hotel rooms which were also available through Air B&B.
The biggest thing about travel is please, please, please, do not expect to have things the same way you are used to where ever it is you live, you are going to different countries with different food, different lifestyles, different traditions and cultures, it is not going to be the same as it is in North America unless of course you are travelling in North America. There the changes will be slight and subtle. Before you go to where ever it is you travel familiarize yourself with what the customs are, what acceptable dress code is, if the country is safe etc. If you are informed (your responsibility) you will have a better trip and be somewhat more prepared. Also check to see about whether or not you will require a Visa to enter the country. These can be obtained on line. Taking a computer tablet will come in very handy for this.
You will also need update your vaccinations as there are areas in the world where Polio and other diseases are alive and well. |In some countries you will be required to have certain vaccinations in order to cross borders. Even if you do not want to travel this year but have plans to travel later on check with travel clinics as they recommend having some vaccinations priors to certain ages for example they prefer that you are 60 or younger for the Yellow Fever which is required to cross some borders in Africa.
Do you get it? There are several considerations for travel and tackling these considerations will make your travel far more enjoyable.
